Hi everyone! I’ve hit the ground running in this new year by finishing up theĀ  Facebook Page for Undead Monkey music. :-)

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Undead-Monkey/33498796378

If you have a Facebook profile, click through and become a Fan! :-) There’s streaming music as well as a discography. This blog is imported to the Facebook page so you won’t miss any news. I expect to also post some notes there that won’t be elsewhere. You can post all over the place…besides comments to notes, drop in and write on my Wall or participate in (start!) discussions on the Forum. :-) Become a Fan and post to your friends so they can become fans too. :-)

(I’ve also got a Facebook Page for my solo Gymshoes music)

See you on Facebook! :-)

Happy Holidays: It’s snowing in cyberspace

•December 8, 2008 • Leave a Comment

That’s right, we’ve got snow on the blog until January 4th. It’s a cool WordPress option. Really stands out against this dark theme. At least it melts quickly.

Undead Monkey wishes you, your friends, and your family an exuberant uplifting holiday season. :-D

Undead Monkey again looking for a drummer

•October 15, 2008 • Leave a Comment

We are once again looking for a drummer. See original post for info. The only things I’d add to that are: we aren’t interested in anyone who is already in a band, unless they really are leaving it. We’ve twice gotten stuck by musicians who are not fully commited to this band. Secondly, rehearsals are not optional. If you don’t have time for the band, don’t answer the ad. I hate to sound all scary and negetive, but the band’s ad for a drummer really is pretty upbeat (pun intended). ;-) I think I just set a record for linking to an earlier post.

The Undead and Ike

•September 23, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Hurricane Ike scattered the Undead, but we are alive and well. The power outtages, damage and debris throughout the Houston area have meant that we’re doing “hurricane stuff” and not music stuff. But we’re OK and hope to be back rehearsing as soon as we can dig out and plug in again. :-)

Welcome our new drummer, Eon

We now have a new drummer…..give a big Undead Welcome to Eon. The jam session/rehearsal Saturday was just awesome. :-) He isn’t just monkeying around! ;-)

Undead on the Web

•July 22, 2008 • Leave a Comment

With the conversion of the Undead Monkey to a live local band, we’ve now gone live with our own domain name: theundeadmonkey.com. Click it and you get….this blog. :-D This very same blog. This gives us a bigger tree to swing from, a few more options, and a whiff of legitimacy. So bookmark it; it’s our new home. :-)

Looking for a drummer

•June 13, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I (Gymshoes) am forming a new band under the Undead Monkey banner. It will be a live, local band, not an internet band as this originally was. I’m looking for rock drummer, 25-43 yrs old, for band. Eventually 1-2 pub gigs per month. Record and sell songs online. Must be available on weekends for rehearsals & song development. SE Houston, south of beltway 8, Webster, Clear Lake, League City, Friendswood, Pasadena, Pearland etc. No druggies, tokers, smokers, alcoholics. No drama. No negativity. Must have whatever gear you need to do your thing. Must communicate well with other band members, have enthusiasm, energy, creativity, imagination, a good sense of humor.

Including a handful of Undead Monkey songs that’s already been recorded and released online—as well as solo stuff—I have about two dozen original songs. I’ve got my own label for my solo stuff which could also release band music (if we wanted to go that route). I’m in this for fun but I’m serious about it, too.

Everything Flows From The Drums: I want to build this band by getting a drummer first (well, second counting me, LOL) because I feel like everything flows from the drums. I’m not looking for someone to just keep time, but for a drummer who will contribute something that will (along with contributions of other band members) make the songs realize their full potential. Someone whose drumming contributes substantially to the development of the songs. Creativity as well as time-keeping. I don’t want the band to be dependent on generic drum loops or have an ever-changing drummer sitting in. I think if I can find the right drummer that I’ll be able to pull together a terrific band, write better songs, and we can all have a lot of fun making great music together. :-) The vibe of a band, IMHO, is really dependent on what the drummer brings to it. :-)

Location: SE Houston, Houston addys south of beltway 8, Pasadena, Pearland, Friendswood, Webster, League City, Alvin, Clear lake, Kemah, Seabrook, etc.

Resurrection and Reincarnation

•June 12, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Yes, that’s right the Undead have reawakened, sort of. I started this band as an outlet for doing non-Gymshoes music with other musicians. The internet band thing didn’t work out as well as I’d hoped; the ever-changing assortment of musicians kept drifting away due to lack of time, so I decided to pull the plug on the band rather than continue to replace musicians. I’m still writing songs though, and there were quite a few that the Undead never recorded.

Recently I’ve been working on putting together a live local band. As part of this process I’m registering and placing ads with various online resources. Most places the options are to register either as “musician seeking band” or “band seeking musician”. Since I’m forming a band rather than looking to join one—and since I can’t think of any other cool band name, I’m using the Undead Monkey name. Which is appropriate since I started UM as a band for my non-electronica, and since the new band will be doing what is—or would have been—the Undead songbook.

Though the new band will be formed under the Undead name, after we’ve gelled and the lineup is solid I expect we’ll come up with a new name.

Check back here for more on the band formation process. I’ll be posting ads, ideas, and updates periodically. :-D

The Last Hurrah Of The Undead Monkey

•January 22, 2008 • Leave a Comment

The Monkey has been comatose and appears to have quietly died in its sleep over the past several months. So, we’re pulling the plug—it would be better to DNR (do not resuscitate) rather than try to shock the Monkey back to life at this point. The Undead Monkey is Dead.

We are, however, all still out there making music in an assortment of ways with an assortment of other musicians.:-D This is part of the reason for the death of the Monkey: band members who had no time for the Monkey last year will again have no time this year and band members with little time for the Monkey last year will have less time this year.

Posthumous Music: Although the Undead Monkey is now Dead, there is the possibility that new music could still be released from Undead Monkey at some point in the future because some unfinished songs need so little to be completed. If that happens you’ll read about it here because this blog will remain for the foreseeable future.:-) All music will continue to be available from archive.org.

Resurrection and Reincarnation: Hockinfinger allows as how the Monkey might possibly be resurrected in the future and Gymshoes thinks that it could be reincarnated with a new name. The Monkey was, after all, Undead to begin with so anything is possible.;-) This blog will keep a finger on the Undead pulse and any sign of resurrection or reincarnation (or posthumous music) will be posted here.:-)

Chat room goes private

•January 7, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Since in the 6-7 months we’ve had a dedicated chatroom the only people who have used it have been bandmembers for band meetings, the chatroom has been changed to a private room. As there has been no interest from fans, changing it to a private room means we won’t have to constantly monitor it for spam and other irrelevant chatter. It’s maintenance-free, which is good for us and doesn’t hurt fans since you weren’t using it anyway. We can always change it back to public if we need to. :-)
